Dear Parents,
Welcome to another fabulous year at QISS..!
It was a real pleasure meeting and working together with all of your children this week—your children were all very polite and well-behaved. Although it was only the first week, we still managed to accomplish quite a lot. We completed a variety of assignments related to our core content areas while also learning more about each other and ourselves via inquiry-based learning tactics and higher-order thinking skills combined with creative expression and teamwork.
This quarter we will focus on the theme of “Incredible Me” and the children will explore topics related to themselves and how they correlate with the mission statement and purpose of QISS. We have discussed the main tenets of: Vitality; Courage; Sensitivity; Intelligence; and Compassion, and how we can implement and exhibit these values and traits as the leaders and role models of the Lower School.
We created our own Mission Statement as a class and will utilize it as a cognitive and emotional roadmap for the entire year:
“We the People of Grade Five Orange:
Will be perfect role models for the younger students because we are the leaders of the lower school;
Will study all subjects with vitality, courage, and intelligence;
Will try our best to prepare for the future and beyond by studying hard, challenging ourselves, staying organized, and being sensitive and compassionate;
Will work as a team and always respect each other and ourselves,
Will focus on becoming the global leaders of tomorrow.”
Soon, the class website will be complete (www.gradefiveorange.weebly.com) as well as the Edmodo site (www.edmodo.com invite code: 4hg3p2) and the ClassDojo information which I have provided a handout with the invite codes. I welcome all parents to sign up for these programs in order to monitor our progress in the classroom and to also leave any feedback or suggestions.
Once again, I am greatly looking forward to working with all of your children this year and expanding their horizons while focusing on the core virtues implemented at QISS.
Best regards,
Adam J. Meek, M.Ed.
